Hello Friends!! I've been meaning to update the good old blog, but have gotten a bit distracted! My goal for 2024 is at least 1 post a month. When I last posted in November, I believe I was talking about getting ready for Christmas and working in gift wrap at Von Maur! I know it sounds silly to love a part-time seasonal gift-wrapping job, but both Maddie and I love that job! We meet up with our friends from previous years there and, while it can be super busy, it is lots of fun too. And who doesn't love wrapping gifts in gorgeous paper and realizing that someone is going to be thrilled to receive the gift amd the givers are delighted to have their purchases all wrapped and ready to go!

Miss M turned 22 just before Christmas! Her classes and finals had been completed by the time of her birthday. With it being so close to Christmas, it is sometimes difficult to get together to celebrate! But we managed it this year with a birthday day dinner at one of her favorite places and we had an ice cream cake! It was delish! Connor was in town for the holiday, so that made it extra special and a very nice guy that M is dating was also able to attend. We all loved meeting him and getting to know him a little.

The weather at Christmas was very warm and it rained like crazy on Christmas Eve, so we were unable to light our luminaires. That was a first in the 30 years we've lived here! The weather this year has been pretty crazy with at least a week of very sub-zero temps! But we are supposed to hit 62 today - the last day of January with the sun shining brightly! We just got through a few weeks with those super frigid temps and 15+ inches of snow and then dreary cold temps, so we definitely are enjoying have the sun out and some warm weather.

We had planned to be with the whole family on Christmas Eve, but some of the littles were sick, so we had to delay that. We're actually celebrating this weekend - Christmas in February! Instead, Maddie and I made a quick batch of chili and invited her guy to join us for dinner! Maddie and I did a quick clean sweep of the house and all the "stuff" sitting around. It was loads of fun and I must say, I do love my chili! :)

Now that we're nearly finished with January, there is a light at the end of the long winter tunnel! Sending good wishes out into the universe for all. Stay tuned and I promise to try and update more often!

Hi Friends!! Happy Thanksgiving week to all! We spent Saturday raking leaves! We have 14 bags plus 3 or 4 trash containers FULL of leaves! Yes, the beauty of living in an older neighborhood is the lovely trees. The downside is raking and bagging all those leaves! We haven't even started on the driveway or backyard. Now that the weather has turned colder, I'm not sure that we will get too much more done, but there could be a warm day or two coming up and we will try! WARNING- Scary photo ahead!

I had surgery on my eyes a couple weeks ago! OUCH!!! Oh. My. Word! That really hurt a lot! The surgery is called Ptosis and Blepharoplasty and it is a type of surgery that removes excess skin from the eyelids. With age, eyelids stretch, and the muscles supporting them weaken. As a result, excess skin and fat can gather above and below your eyelids making you look tired and impacting your vision. So they cut into your eyelids and shorten those muscles and remove excess skin. It can be hereditary and so far, two of my sisters have either had or will have the same procedure. I have had significant bruising (black eyes), but those are improving now at the 2-week mark. I was awake pretty much throughout the entire procedure. The doc used light sedation at the beginning, but then the surgeon woke me up so he could see my eyes open and do the surgery properly. He told me to let him know when hurt a LOT, so I cried out a few times and he put more numbing creme in. But remember that old rhyme - "stick a needle in my eye" Yep -- that's what it felt like - lots of needles in my eyes and I could feel the stitches going in. OY!! I believe it was a success, however, my eyes feel so itchy at times and I cannot itch them. I think that will improve soon. This photo is from a couple days ago - so I'm almost at 2 weeks post-surgery. I have some concealer on in the photo, but I sure wish I was better at make-up to hide these bruises! :)

We are headed to my son's house for Thanksgiving this year. Should be fun to see them and the kiddos! I'm taking my famous pumpkin pie and fudge! YUMMM!
Happy Thanksgiving All!

How are you all doing on this Friday the 13th?? It's kind of chilly and dreary here in Nebraska. A bit afraid this is a sign of weather to come -- it is fall after all. We did have some lovely fall days and hoping for more.

My Jenny Craig job ended mid-August. In case you didn't know, Jenny Craig was in the middle of a big re-do and sale that ultimately failed and the company filed for bankruptcy in June! The Jenny C I worked at was a franchise and was able to continue seeing clients and selling food until the end of August. Nutrisystem bought Jenny C and then bought up all the food so there was none to sell. If you never tried it, let me tell you, that it was very good frozen food. In fact, I gave Maddie her favorites so she had a lot in her dorm. That way, she didn't have to cook or run out to get lunch or dinner. Anyway, that was the end of my job. I hated to say goodbye to my clients, who were so kind and sweet. I've been working since I was about 15 years old, so long that it just doesn't feel normal to not work somewhere!

Sooooo, I started a job hunt! I really only wanted a part-time job, so applied for clerical jobs at our local community college, some retail jobs and so on. I had lots of interviews and even second interviews, but ultimately did not receive offers. I guess I have an inflated sense of how well I did as I thought I'd be offered every single one! Nope - didn't happen. I'm guessing that once they saw how old I am, they put a big black X through my application. :( Yes, I am having a bit of a crisis of confidence. I was definitely hoping for one of the openings at Nothing Bundt Cake, a fancy chocolate shop and cookie stores, no such luck.

But, I am working as a substitute para at one of the local Catholic elementary schools. When one of the paras needs a day off, they text me to see if I can sub for them. It's a fine job, but I have not been called on much and I really wanted something with more set weekly hours. I think I worked all of 8 hours in September. However, next week, I am subbing 3 days in a row for 4 hours each time. My responsibilities include taking the first graders out for recess, walking them to the lunchroom and grading papers for the middle school grades. Happily, there is an Answer Key, as it has been a LONG time since I've been in school.

Also looking forward to my and Maddie's seasonal jobs at Von Maur doing gift wrap. It generally starts after Thanksgiving and we both love that job and our coworkers! The 20% discount is pretty nice too!
So, that's the story on my job hunt. I need to think of decluttering my house as a job so I will do more of that! Enjoy your weekend!

Happy Fall Y'all!! But seriously, how can it be time for fall to be here??? We do love fall around here - but dread what follows -- W I N T E R! But for now, we will put that season out of our minds! A few trees are just beginning to turn color here. The bigger sign of fall is all the acorns falling and the squirrels everywhere! Frannie wants to catch a squirrel, but she is not quick enough. Our sweet Scottie, Muffy, did catch one, but it screamed so loud, she let it go. Totally fine with me as I wouldn't have wanted to have to dispose of it! Ewww!

Anyway, I wanted to show you the foxes that reside in our neighborhood! I see them on walks all the time. We don't live out in the country. We are in the middle of the city. Earlier this year, Maddie and I saw the baby foxes (called kits I think) running and jumping and playing tag. Foxes don't seem to be scared of humans - they don't want you to get too close, but will engage in a staredown and then saunter away. Why is it that foxes are so adorable when so many other critters are scary and disgusting - opossums I'm talking about you! One of the neighborhood foxes did catch a little dinner last year just down the street from us!

Husker football has started around here and tomorrow is the second home game. Hoping for another win for the new coach.
Go Big Red! I don't really follow football very much, but so many in Nebraska are obsessed with it. For me - home football games provide the best time to go shopping - not much traffic! :)

Did I tell you my Jenny Craig job ended?? Sad day as I loved the clients and the food, but the corporate company filed bankruptcy earlier this year. The franchise I worked at continued through August, but then Nutrisystem (who bought JC in bankruptcy) took away the ability of the franchise to continue to sell food and clients dropped off. Anyway, I've had a ton of interviews looking for a new part-time job. I am one of those optimistic people and believed I would be offered jobs after each interview I had! Silly me - no such luck. Except that I am a substitute para at a local Catholic elementary school taking over for paras who take a day off or are sick. So far, I've worked 2 mornings. I miss working. Not that I want to go back to full-time, but I like part-time and getting out of the house and chatting with coworkers!

Hi all -- this is a bit of a late birthday post as my (our) birthday was in July!! But since we celebrated together, I wanted to be sure and post about it!
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiU6PmE8o5niC4UWMCWSfTXJTyZFQw8tPygG2sqYHgfJhqu4pv1HHabHVhYwlarP5lq_DX-sLsjgKFtRE7b4V09cgqGK535KlUbST0911KiGBbU3UJT2Ncrx30zEul72IkRT1-hTpyWLF9P6m1uO3G_hvaxkYyM-Ssw9t9gVHA9Mm8zRP0-WpgJ6YdeXQc/s2016/IMG_2356.jpg" style="display: block; padding: 1em 0; text-align: center; "><img alt="" border="0" height="600" data-original-height="2016" data-original-width="1512" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiU6PmE8o5niC4UWMCWSfTXJTyZFQw8tPygG2sqYHgfJhqu4pv1HHabHVhYwlarP5lq_DX-sLsjgKFtRE7b4V09cgqGK535KlUbST0911KiGBbU3UJT2Ncrx30zEul72IkRT1-hTpyWLF9P6m1uO3G_hvaxkYyM-Ssw9t9gVHA9Mm8zRP0-WpgJ6YdeXQc/s600/IMG_2356.jpg"/></a></div>
My twin, Judy, was born about 10 minutes before me - so she is the oldest! That used to bother me, but no more -- I'm always younger than her!! :) For every single birthday, our birthday cake had her name first since she was oldest! Fair???? I thought I should get first billing once in a while!! ;) We had a fun birthday and a marble cake! Growing up, there was a bakery not too far from our house that had marble cakes - and they were super yummy! The one we had was too and I love me a lot of frosting! We went out to lunch with Maddie and Judy's daughter-in-law and grandson. It was a fun lunch together and the cake was soooo good!

Happy September 1st and the first day of meteorological fall! Who do you think came up with this meteorological fall stuff? I think probably a weatherman -- I really don't think it's fall until the REAL fall comes about on the Fall Equinox - September 23rd this year! We are nowhere close to leaves turning color - unless totally brown and dead due to drought! We are starting to see acorns falling which is a sign that fall is coming, but it is not here yet.

Last time (I know it was a while back) I started talking about our trip to Disney in May -- yes, I am certainly behind! One of our favorite places to go - especially in the evening - is to Epcot! Even more than usual this time, as Maddie is 21 and can have a little drink! She and Connor had a special pink martini! Reports are that it wasn't that great. She had a little Mimosa with me, but we are not big drinkers, so that was about the extent of our drinking!
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiCgJD0cfzcRciwfx5R6lWcfSIqz4mUSVSW0XSCqzcQUdI8hua-ZGFdF85gYm1dsvcNSA_mQrNlALkR8E9rbShxvuwIj1j-mrJ4niOQyKhoES3BLBakCm3wdkImlBZck3KEJEElOeEG8nJq7unotE9VNExc-_xYO94XDR2BH4O_VAh2uj56uT91y3yhk5s/s2016/IMG_2142.jpg" style="display: block; padding: 1em 0; text-align: center; "><img alt="" border="0" height="400" data-original-height="2016" data-original-width="1512" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiCgJD0cfzcRciwfx5R6lWcfSIqz4mUSVSW0XSCqzcQUdI8hua-ZGFdF85gYm1dsvcNSA_mQrNlALkR8E9rbShxvuwIj1j-mrJ4niOQyKhoES3BLBakCm3wdkImlBZck3KEJEElOeEG8nJq7unotE9VNExc-_xYO94XDR2BH4O_VAh2uj56uT91y3yhk5s/s400/IMG_2142.jpg"/></a></div>
The grounds at Epcot and everywhere at Disney are simply amazing!! Wish Rickster could figure out how to do these at our house!
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhwI3x8k-jt5SU9yFGfBUKbfcsMZzY6xWqmxdWvEvf1dj9mp-mjUjOtHr0rXon5tfj1V2sP0IGIeDeKJlTEy6ObbxDiSd5JdJUPETFntk2pOpA399BP8GHmEdUh4rY5mZKISd--B0sb4xaiR9q2N37Hh_UXGcKoF1n-0lEgIdkZM2he1UqvNT2WUD_4uB0/s1650/IMG_2192.jpg" style="display: block; padding: 1em 0; text-align: center; "><img alt="" border="0" height="600" data-original-height="1650" data-original-width="1511" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhwI3x8k-jt5SU9yFGfBUKbfcsMZzY6xWqmxdWvEvf1dj9mp-mjUjOtHr0rXon5tfj1V2sP0IGIeDeKJlTEy6ObbxDiSd5JdJUPETFntk2pOpA399BP8GHmEdUh4rY5mZKISd--B0sb4xaiR9q2N37Hh_UXGcKoF1n-0lEgIdkZM2he1UqvNT2WUD_4uB0/s600/IMG_2192.jpg"/></a></div>
We also enjoyed the food - Epcot has the best food especially in France! Croissants, creme puffs, quiche! Yum!

Hi Friends! Well, that was quite a little break I took, wasn't it! :) I have lots of updating to do, so I'll start back in May and go from there and try to catch up! :)

Sooooo, in May after Maddie finished her spring semester of Rad Tech classes, she and I and Connor went to . . . our favorite place -- Disney World! Connor lives in Jacksonville, Florida now, so not too far for him and he drove to meet us there. Flights were crowded and we did Carry On Only! We learned from our last trip!! We evidently picked the most perfect time to visit! It wasn't too hot, not humid, no rain and it was not even crowded! We had THE. BEST. TIME!! We stayed at one of our favorite locations -- it's a moderate resort that feels like a deluxe - Coronado Springs - Grand Tourismo Tower. I even went on rollercoasters that had scared me previously - like the one at Animal Kingdom where that stinking Yeti comes out to scare riders!! We loved the new ride - TRON! It was like riding a very, very fast motorcycle! There were so many rides we went on with the help of Genie+ and Lightning Lanes. So much Fun!

Go figure that one of the wildest rides was the Teacups! Seriously - they made us all so dizzy this year! Fun, but I wobbled off that ride!

Of course, I attempted to take some selfies here and there - but failed terribly. However, Connor got one of us that turned out. More Disney updates to follow!

Once again we've been having confused weather here on the plains! We've had record highs and this morning a record low of 26 degrees!! What the heck is going on? Rickster already turned on the AC a couple days, but now we're back to the furnace! Go figure! Plus the wind!! It's been crazy and usually it's windy as you go west on I-80 - but lately super windy here. So, there's your weather forecast. Party Sunny with a Chance of Snow, Rain, Strong Wind, record highs and record lows! [photo above from Easter 2022] [photo below from 2023 - didn't get all the kiddos in the photo - sorry Gloria and Helen]

So, we had Easter celebration at my son's house with their kiddos and that was lots of fun! I'm the Mimi (grammy) who gives the kids bubble wands for Easter - and after they opened them (outside, of course), the bubbles get spilled all over the driveway and probably themselves. Oops -- at least the driveway got cleaned! My son put this on his IG post last week --yes, that is one of the bubble wands I gave the kiddos! :)

Maddie has been soooooo busy this semester with doing clinicals and getting her comps (required x-rays of body parts they've already learned) completed in addition to regular coursework of writing papers, taking tests, etc. It's been a little bit of a struggle as the locations she was assigned ended up having very few patients with x-rays that she could do. Students have to have completed learning how to do the x-rays and demonstrating they could do it, before actually doing the comp. So, 6 comps really means 12. She was able to complete the required number last week which was what we've been praying for. She will be in classes over the summer too. Her first clinical rotation is a distance one, so she'll be driving 1-1/2 hours <b>each way</b> to a trauma center in Iowa twice a week for 5 weeks! Pray for her safety driving please. She's a good driver, but people tend to speed in Nebraska and Iowa! The speed limit is 75 and most people do 85. Slow down already! :) Trying to find and send encouraging blurbs! Here's one I just found from my friend Jodee!

Some heartbreaking and sad news. My very best friend died last month. She and I met on the job in 1985 and became fast and best friends. She was an amazing and loving mother and wife and just recently became a grandmother! Cancer hit her a little over a year ago and she fought like hell. She was able to see and snuggle her first grandchild and that was a huge goal of hers. I'm so happy she was able to meet that goal. She and I talked and texted and visited a lot and we were able over the past year to tell each other how much we meant to each other. Maddie often visited her with me and texted her too. We miss her so much. Her birthday is coming up at the end of May and we will surely toast her with her favorite drink- a Margarita! Love you sweet Marcia!

The Spring (?) EditionHi friends! Well, the calendar may be saying that we are officially meteorologically in spring now, but we're having a difficult time getting there in Nebraska! We've had more snow and wind and downright chilly, dreary weather than some winter months! Just last weekend, we woke up on Sunday to snow AGAIN!!! So, would you rather have THIS?

Or would you rather have THAT? I sent a photo to my son in Florida and look what he sent back! First day at the pool and temps at 87! Wowzer! I think those palm trees are calling my name! You know my choice!

Plus, Rickster had been in Seattle for a client the week before and was anticipating chilly, dreary, rainy weather. Nope, he had sunny skies and warm temps while the chilly, dreary, rainy weather stayed here! Praying for a warmup soon!

Greetings Matey! Oh I love this oldie - it's from 2008 and we went on a Disney cruise with some cousins! What a fun time that was!

Happy Spring --I wish it was spring -- but we seem to be having to wait and wait for a real warm up. You know what makes me kind of jealous lately??? When I'm watching the news and I see reporters with GREEN lawns and trees blooming in the background! Here it is still brown, brown and more brown. OY!! The forecast isn't looking great for a green-out for a while yet. I suppose this gives me time to rake up the 5,000,000 leaves that have drifted into our yard. But really -- who wants to do that???

And so, while I dream about warm temps -- you know what else I'm dreaming about -- Disney World! We've often taken our trip in the spring during spring or Easter break, so I've had a little fun looking back at some favorites!

Remember that song -- Going to the Chapel and I'm gonna get married!? Well, my nephew Dan and his bride did just that in early February! Their wedding was in St. Augustine, Florida - a gorgeous location. Both Dan and Alina are working in Kansas City, but family is in Florida, so that's where they picked for the wedding. Imagine this -- they were going to get married during Covid year - but had to reschedule a couple times and finally tied the knot. Siblings Dan and Grace below. And my sister Amy with Grace and Alina.

The wedding was beautiful and I know my sister Amy and her husband Todd were so proud of the young couple. Unfortunately, the weather request was ignored by the weatherman, so the sunny warm temps were not around and it was gray and chilly and rainy on and off. But even the dreary weather couldn't dampen the spirits! And we were so busy having fun and chatting that I didn't get a ton of photos.

It was a reunion of sorts for my sisters and me and some nieces and nephews. We also got to see Connor who moved to Jacksonville earlier this year. Gosh, we miss him a lot. We had such a good time being together even thought it was a very fast weekend. Some of our cousins were also there and it was such a blessing to get together at such a happy occasion! There was a photo booth and we had a blast getting photos done.

Due to Maddie's school schedule, we didn't get there until Friday night and then had to leave early, early early on Sunday morning. There are not many good flights to Jacksonville, Florida!

Pizza Hut? Dominos? Papa Johns? Those are all excellent pizzas in our area - but the very best is one that is local to Omaha! I grew up going there with my family and it's still around-- you know it must be good if it's survived that long! It's called LaCasa's Pizzeria! There a couple locations now to make it easier for those of us who don't get all the way into midtown Omaha very often. Last time I was there, I asked them to open a location in Lincoln!

I call it one of the first flatbread type pizzas and they use Romano cheese on it. It is simply delicious! We stopped there a month or two ago when we were in Omaha with Maddie. Rickster went craZy for it! He now says the only thing he wants for his birthday (in July) is a large LaCasa's pizza. We can manage that! What's your favorite pizza place??

Hello Friends!! It's been awhile, hasn't it! Oh my word, I got soooooo far behind. I had been trying to post once in a while, but as we know, that hasn't happened. (I am including some random photos from fall/December to break up the paragraphs as I still haven't figured out this newish blog system!)

I have a few excuses for my absence --- in December, I was working two jobs -- my regular job at Jenny Craig and then also as a gift wrapper at Von Maur. Crazy I know, I set my own schedule for Von Maur and worked way too much - some days working 5 hours at Jenny C and then another 5 or 6 at Von Maur. I was totally confused sometimes as to which day it was and where I was supposed to be working! But, I do love doing the gift wrapping, so even though tiring, it was fun. Miss Maddie also worked there over her break and that's always super to be working with her. We have so many gift wrap friends that it is a treat to go to work.

And then, that darn January came around and it was cold and ugly out and I seemed to hibernate! I do not like the month of January at all. Also, Maddie moved into a new apartment in Omaha. The apartment at her university was fine and in a good location, but the roomie!!! Roomie seemed to believe there was space in the apartment for 3 of them, Maddie, Roomie and Roomie's boyfriend! UGH!!! Not a good situation and so stressful and unfair that M was basically stuck in her bedroom a lot of the time as Roomie and BF were hanging out in the living room. And he was staying over and using their tiny little bathroom and shower! Ewwww -- not good! The whole situation got my blood boiling! Maddie checked and found that the Newman Center (Catholic organization with a dorm in Omaha) had a space open up in January. It is a 4-person suite with 4 private bedrooms, kitchen, living room and 2 bathrooms. One girl moved out over the Christmas break. Maddie nabbed that opening fast! My sister Judy and I moved her over there and we all felt a big sign of relief with some stress floating away with the change. The new girls are super nice and the location is great. Maddie often went to the Newman Center to study and it's perfect that she can be in the study rooms whenever she wants. It's in a very convenient location and only about 10-15 minutes from Maddie's classes. Bonus - Starbucks is around the corner! We are keeping this advice with us into 2023!

Well, here we are at November!! Oh my word -- how did we get here so quickly when sometimes the days seem to drag by?? As usual, I meant to post earlier and more often, but I screwed up. Some day I hope to catch up and be on a more timely schedule!

Anyway, Maddie was home the weekend before Halloween and said her radiology teacher said EXTRA points for students wearing costumes to class, so we quickly set out to find one. We found a <b>Where's Waldo</b> costume still in the bag from probably 12 years ago! Does that mean I'm a hoarder??? I don't think so, do you?? The only thing needed was a pair of glasses, and we found those at a party store and, and voila - her costume was ready. It was such an easy costume and looked so cute. Probably some folks don't even remember the <b>Where's Waldo</b> books, but my sons loved those and drove me crazy challenging me to find Waldo as quickly as they did! That never happened!

I also wore a costume that day to work at Jenny Craig. I was a baker! Another easy and fun costume that included my love for Disney! See Mickey on my apron!

We had 700 trick or treaters according to a neighbor who counted! That meant there was no candy left for me when I got home from work. Oh well, you know me, I probably had some chocolate hidden away; yes - of course, I did! Hahaha!
Hope you all had a good Halloween too!

This past week, Maddie has been on her fall break from school. That did not mean no studying as she has two mid-term exams as soon as she returns - tomorrow and Wednesday in addition to a load of other assignments! College is hard! But, we did manage to have a few outings and some fun!
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi8LM_b928BoTJaZuS_Ks4Jr6iNIeSXc_ha1hhb6mwaFhQsFset-2_dCRe7NENY2lwSIcORC8FfNQuVNXfXv8EDN0CS3Bqk2JpBfRhRmE165wg7HNbruXzrZ89CviGEDCo12PAva6CHs5A2RB39LZV1bZ0lGhISqAttcUeY_M_oNoClvrYTm-rWzNhf/s640/Halloween%202.JPG" style="display: block; padding: 1em 0; text-align: center; "><img alt="" border="0" width="600" data-original-height="428" data-original-width="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi8LM_b928BoTJaZuS_Ks4Jr6iNIeSXc_ha1hhb6mwaFhQsFset-2_dCRe7NENY2lwSIcORC8FfNQuVNXfXv8EDN0CS3Bqk2JpBfRhRmE165wg7HNbruXzrZ89CviGEDCo12PAva6CHs5A2RB39LZV1bZ0lGhISqAttcUeY_M_oNoClvrYTm-rWzNhf/s600/Halloween%202.JPG"/></a></div>
We went to the Outlet shopping one day -- it's weird to shop on a weekday as the outlet is usually crowded and it was so empty! So, it was strange, but nice to have the stores to ourselves!
Corn mazes are popular around here! Do you see me?

One day we went to the movie, Lyle Lyle Crocodile! :) I've seen those books but have never read one! The movie was so good. We both enjoyed it and laughed and laughed. It was very touching too. So glad that we didn't think - that's a kid movie and not go see it. Plus, Shawn Mendes singing -- awesome!! :)

We also went to our local pumpkin patch known as Roca Berry Farm. For Halloween, they call it Roca Scary Farm. Wow -- that place has expanded sooooo much! Going on a nice warm Saturday may not have been the best plan as it was very crowded, but still lots of fun! An oldie but a goodie from 2011 at the Pumpkin Patch

And, of course, the weather is changing around here. This week some mornings are expected to be in the 20's with highs only hitting 50! But, next weekend maybe 80s! That's the way it is in Nebraska and I'm hoping for more warm days than cold ones. A couple more photos from the Pumpkin Patch!

She was one of the first to visit Chick-fil-A when one opened in town!
She told me recently she ordered personalized license plates. I wondered, hmmm - what would they say???

It is now meteorological fall. Why did we have to come up with that term? Can't we just wait for "regular fall??"
There are great things about fall too- most importantly - my less frizzy hair, sweaters, hot chocolate!! The pool closes next week -- bring it on fall! But, we will be enjoying the pool until the very last day!

HI friends! I really do have the best intentions of blogging more - but how is it the month gets away from me ??? I don't know - except time is flying! So, here's the August update! And it's the end of meteorological summer with meteorlogical fall to start tomorrow! I knew summer would zip right by and it's been so hot, I'm looking forward to cooler temps, but I sure don't want to see meteorological winter coming up so fast! ;)

So, in August, Maddie moved to Omaha and started at Nebraska Methodist College of Nursing and Health Sciences. She's in the health sciences category and her major is Radiologic Technology. It's a two year program for an Associates degree with a third year resulting in a focused area and a Bachelor's degree. It's her third year of college, so she's a junior. Her apartment is right on campus and that makes getting to classes easy and fast. She has a very nice roomie who is a nursing major. The campus is SO DIFFERENT than Univ of Nebraska at Kearney! Kearney has a lovely spread-out campus with a big fountain, outdoor seating areas, a football/sports field and complex and in a lovely city where it takes about 5-10 minutes to get anywhere. Methodist is in the middle of a busy city -- the campus is at a busy midtown intersection. Definitely takes longer to get places, but there are more shopping and eating places, so those are all a plus. AND - it's only about an hour away from me! Nice to be close to Mommy! :)

In addition, Omaha has a thriving Newman Center (Catholic Organization for college students). They have a new dorm and she plans to live there next year as it is not far from Methodist. They are having way more activities in the first two weeks than the Newman Center in Kearney had in 9 months, so that's providing a nice bit of social activities. So far, S'mores Night; a trip to the Omaha Amazing Henry Doorly Zoo; outdoor movie; BBQ and I'm not sure what all is coming up next. I think they should do a Lip Sync contest - and/or karaoke - wouldn't that be fun?? Maybe I can be the Activities Director!?!!

I'm still working at Jenny Craig Diet Center and enjoying that. Also walking a LOT! You'd think the house would be totally organized and cleaned up, but I often go out for a walk instead and chat with one of my sisters.
We are all missing Connor who moved to Jacksonville, Florida. He'll be gone for his birthday next week and I don't know if he's ever been away for his birthday (sniffle, sniffle)!! I hope he goes to the beach to celebrate.

Rickster is doing ok and planning to attend his high school reunion next month. It was postponed due to lack of interest last year and year before due to Covid. I hope he has fun, but doesn't see his high school cheerleader girlfriend!! Hehehehehe!

Our favorite photographer took these awesome photos of M for her half-year birthday in June. Her full year birthday is right before xmas and that's a tough time due to cold and snow for photos! ;)

Well, here it is the end of July already!! I just had a feeling that summer would go by fast and it sure is -- way too fast!!
As usual, it got HOT, really HOT and HUMID here - but you know I do love summer, so I haven't minded too much. But -- of course -- my hair has been a disaster! Isn't it always!!! :)

Summer time is pool time, am I right? It's been a bit different this summer with me working part-time 3 days a week and Maddie being in class 3 mornings a week and studying a lot! Her class ends with the <b>final final</b> tomorrow! Two finals - one for lab and one for lecture! She's killing that class and I have a learned a little going over review questions with her! Her goal was an A and she's getting it! In other news, she went to the nearby outlet mall one day to meet her new roommate. She said they had a good meeting -- even though they couldn't find the Scooters that is right in the middle of the outlet mall and we've walked by it loads of times. But, anyway, her roomie is from Omaha and a nursing major. Maddie is a radiologic technology major so I think it will be a nice blend of two awesome majors. My roomies in college (back in the dark ages) were all nursing majors.

Wait -- did I tell you that she's transferring to Nebraska Methodist College of Nursing and Health Sciences in Omaha?? No -- well she is! She planned to stay in Kearney and do the program at the UNMC (Univ of Neb Medical Center) in Kearney, but they required more prereqs so she would have had to have another whole year before she could even start the program. She looked around and found the program at Nebraska Methodist and applied there. She was accepted (competitive to get in) and decided to go there since she could start the program right away.

Bonus- she'll only be an hour away instead of 2 hours. Classes start at the middle of August. She'll be living in their housing (see above) - apartments just across the parking lot from the classroom buildings. She is excited and we are thrilled for her!

In other news, We took Jane (oldest granddaughter) mini-golfing one day! So fun and guess who got a hole-in-one?? Moi! Go me! We also introduced her to Starbucks and Chick-Fil-A -- yes, we are good influences! We saved McDonald's for another day!

Maddie and I also made a couple meals with the help of Hello Fresh! Yummy!!! Seems like pork tacos are a favorite of Hello Fresh and ours too. This was a sheet pan chicken and roasted veggies dish! We LOVED roasted carrots -- who knew how to make those??? Not me! But, now I know. I see a lot of roasted carrots in my future!

Frannie has demanded our attention a lot of the time and although she hates her leash, she does like going for a walk! She actually runs <b>away<i></i></b> when we get the leash out. Weird dog! She's getting a shorter haircut today as running after bunnies in the yard has resulted in lots of little nettles or some such getting stuck in her fur and a nightmare to comb out. Am afraid she's gonna look like a naked mole rat when she comes home later. I think she was laughing at us the last time she had a haircut! I have a feeling we're gonna be laughing at her later today!

Well, I guess that's July for you! Hoping to post more, but as you can see, I'm not always successful! But, here's a fun photo of me shopping. WHen I don't have an assistant (Maddie) with me, I take photos and send to her for approval!! HA HA -- she thinks I'm crazy!!

Hello friends!! Summer has now officially started with the summer solstice today. It's definitely here and has really heated things up around here!! Woohooo! Temps have been in the high 90s and 100 last weekend and this week too! Where do we live anyway?? Nebraska -- it really shouldn't be THIS hot THIS early, but that happens! Of course, when it's not scorching hot and humid, we've been having crazy heavy thunderstorms - like water in the basement storms! UGH.

Anywhoo -- we've been to the pool a few times! The water has been COLD even with the high temps, but it should be warming up nicely with all this heat! Who can resist a choco taco??? Have you heard of these??

Maddie is taking a summer class. Oh my word - there is a ton of work involved. It's a 4 credit hour class and is a 10-week class. During the normal school year, classes are 16 weeks. Sooooo . . . that means 16 weeks of work poured into 10 weeks. She has class on Tuesday and Thursday and lab on Wednesday. It's Anatomy and there is SO much to learn and quizzes basically at every class. Wow -- she's working hard at it!! It's half over this week and goes til the end of July.

In other news, I got a part-time job! I'm working 3 days a week at a Jenny Craig Diet Center! I've used the program previously and lost 20 pandemic pounds last year. It's a lot more involved than it looks from the customer side and I'm enjoying it. The manager and clients are all very nice and it gets me out of the house and out of the Rickster's projects.
More updates to follow!!

I wanted to do a quick update and some photos from University of Nebraska Kearney! Maddie took photos of her sorority sisters and it happened to be when some of the trees were showing off their beautiful spring blooms!

We had a weird winter and spring with not much precipitation and then really hot weather and then really cold weather, so all of blooming trees were -- to put it simply -- freaked out and unsure of when to bloom! When they finally did bloom, some blockbuster rain storms came through and knocked the blooms down (boo hoo), so it was a really short blooming season!

That's the weather in Nebraska -- if you don't like what it's doing, wait 5 minutes and it will change! These are from the lovely Harmon Park located near UNK campus! Love Kearney and UNK!

Oh my gosh - I've gotten SO FAR BEHIND on blogging. So sorry to any of you who try to check in and read up on what's going on. I don't know what my problem is . . . I guess I've had a serious case of writer's block. I promise (again) I'll try to do better and will attempt to add in some posts about our quick Spring Break trip to Disney soon. The castle never disappoints!

But first, since I have a few photos from Easter, that's what we're doing. We had brunch at my son's house. I made 2 quiches and blueberry muffins! I am the designated Quiche Queen! Although the blueberry muffins were a big hit, I really love chocolate chip muffins more. But it's true, they can be messy especially with little hands, so I saved all the chocolate chip muffins for Maddie to take back to her dorm. Ok, I admit it, I kept a couple chocolate chip muffins at home for me!

Look at how adorable my own kiddos are -- they are really not kiddos anymore and even Maddie is out of the teen years! All three are so sweet and helpful - I just love them so.
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg7S1W17hGBSa6Ah2spPOh04DrIY4pyKyXiyZMYj7Gf6PVTGhoRkbinZDCEuwT906GMco-9sKQvmPN8lpWJAnvf6bEllNV9c_R-dWHCEcH13ayC20C5oiTDrcwihn4t-QKxvZ5DHyXP0pmpVuMaYCGCJSZeLQHH1MCnfQweQrxBll1eYDgxUdHK6zDz/s2016/IMG_1955.jpg" style="display: block; padding: 1em 0; text-align: center; "><img alt="" border="0" width="600" data-original-height="1512" data-original-width="2016" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg7S1W17hGBSa6Ah2spPOh04DrIY4pyKyXiyZMYj7Gf6PVTGhoRkbinZDCEuwT906GMco-9sKQvmPN8lpWJAnvf6bEllNV9c_R-dWHCEcH13ayC20C5oiTDrcwihn4t-QKxvZ5DHyXP0pmpVuMaYCGCJSZeLQHH1MCnfQweQrxBll1eYDgxUdHK6zDz/s600/IMG_1955.jpg"/></a></div>
AND -- look at the whole fam. Rickster was home recovering from surgery, so missed the photo op. He's feeling much better. Look at Philip's tribe! And now there are 6 kiddos. I guess I can't really call them The Littles anymore. Jane is almost as tall as me. Some say she's taller and that I was on my tiptoes, but there is no proof, so let's say I'm still taller. She is 12 and the oldest and little baby Helen will turn 1 at the end of May. They are so much fun! Dorothy (now 6) attempted to teach me how to play chess. Total fail on my part. I suggested checkers instead -- that's more my speed! No matter, we were so happy to get to spend a chilly and windy Easter with them! Hope yours was special too!

Hello hello-- happy March to all! This is an even crazier weather month than usual - and it's only March 5th! We had a record high of 81 earlier in the week. The Rickster wanted to turn on the AC!! Coming up this week, the temps will be in the teens and some snow forecast. OY!! Finally, we had some welcome rain last night and thunder! Thunder always make me think of our dear little Scottie, Muffy! She was terrified of thunder and I spent many a night sitting with her in the basement on the sofa with the tv on loud. Sweet baby! She was the best little terrier! Rest in Peace sweet Muffy.

Of course, Frannie the goofy doodle is a good dog too and thunder does not bother her in the least. Wearing a raincoat, however, bothered her a LOT! HA HA HA!

Last weekend when it was sunny and almost 70, Maddie was home. We spent Saturday afternoon at nearby outdoor mall in Omaha called Village Pointe. The place was hopping due to the lovely weather! So many stores there that we don't have in Lincoln. She found an adorable spring/summer dress at a store called Altar'd State. Bonus - it was on sale!
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/a/AVvXsEi9ARuepJltA9vJuQeR5JEuX8Io_s9t635de7KTVtGbSn1YTSMWhK4sB69wA2C3-eLrO71tmjM7eCfIAVZFiuyLlih2vdGkHJ4Vt8HThQ5-dskz3Hj7v968nOzabfstv17K4T0eftWGhXbaVyFrWjHQTXSTfS2DeegW67PM9kf6e1wcwJVe_Bg85Mg-=s2000" style="display: block; padding: 1em 0; text-align: center; "><img alt="" border="0" height="600" data-original-height="2000" data-original-width="1498" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/a/AVvXsEi9ARuepJltA9vJuQeR5JEuX8Io_s9t635de7KTVtGbSn1YTSMWhK4sB69wA2C3-eLrO71tmjM7eCfIAVZFiuyLlih2vdGkHJ4Vt8HThQ5-dskz3Hj7v968nOzabfstv17K4T0eftWGhXbaVyFrWjHQTXSTfS2DeegW67PM9kf6e1wcwJVe_Bg85Mg-=s600"/></a></div>
And we even stopped at the outlet mall on the way home. A little bit of retail therapy always does a person good, am I right??

What can I say about the Ukraine and Russia? My heart and prayers go out to their brave leader and all the people there. Every day I wake up hoping the situation has improved. And I have two very special friends with some dire medical issues and have been praying for them nonstop. I know there is power in prayer. We may not get the results we hope and pray for, but I know our prayers are heard. Sending love and prayers to all.

Had to put a post up on this TWOsday - 2/22/22 day! For the weather update - we hit 65 degrees the other day -- it was such a wonderful preview of spring! This morning, it's 9 degrees and some snow on the ground! UGH! WE want the warm weather back ASAP! On that warm day, I took a long walk and there was an old guy driving his tractor around the neighborhood!!!! Guess he's ready for spring and getting out to the farm too. BRING IT ON!!

In other TWOsday news, I saw this most adorable doodle on the page of the breeders where we found our Frannie Doodle. So cute and named after my sister Amy! I sent it to her and suggested she contact them immediately. She wanted to, but Iowa is pretty far from Florida and she already has two dogs. I truly think that dog was meant for her though!

My cousin sent me this old photo -- I know it's hard to see. There's my dad, one of my brothers, my Mom and me and my twin - dressed alike! So cute and such short bangs! I look a little afraid there clinging to Judy's arm! Time sure does fly by. It just makes my heart happy to see my Mom and Dad in this photo! :)
