Fabrics: Who Wants to Sew Some Curtains?

Since Maddy and I have been sewing together,
one of our favorite things to do on the weekend is . . .
look at fabrics!

I know, I know, it sounds crazy, doesn't it!
But, we really do enjoy spending time at the fabric store and
checking out the new spring fabrics, the clearance materials
and everything in between!
FYI - Walmart sometimes has great fabrics!

One of my sewing goals for the year is to make
curtains/drapes for the living room and maybe dining room too!
This doggie fabric above is adorable -- for bandanas maybe -
but definitely not the living room!

The drapes I have are fine, but really plain and dull and sooooo dreadfully
boring -- snoozefest!
I feel like I need something with a bit more oomph!

I really like this blue fabric above -- am kind of drawn to blue.
For a while, I had blue carpet in the dining room, but we discovered original hardwood floors were
under it, so we tore out the carpet.  Come to think of it,
we currently have a large blue rug under the dining room table
that I just realized looks a lot like that fabric!

Another blue option!  I like it, but am afraid I could go blind
or crazy or both sewing that up!  That's busy!

Am afraid Maddy would call the flowery one above "old lady" fabric!

Hmmm -- may have to re-think blue as I really like this red, but
would need to see it in person to make sure it doesn't look orangey in real life!

We'll see if or when I get to this project.
I did read a tutorial from Miss Mustard Seed (do you read her?)
and it doesn't look too terribly difficult.
Any favorites?

Daydreaming

Thank you all for your kind get-well wishes!
We now have the residual colds/coughs
from Influenza A!
Soon, I'm sure we will be feeling better!

In the meantime,
on cold winter January days -
it helps to get through this never-ending month by remembering
some fun times in Florida last year!

Daydreaming of warm, sunny days
and fun times at the
happiest place on earth!

We need a little Disney!

The Bug!

Oh no -- Mr. Tennis and I both came down with the bug . . .
Influenza A!
Yes, we had flu shots -- I even had a "super-shot" or so they said!

But, oh my word -- this bug makes you feel like you've
been hit or run over by a train!
We both have had fevers, body aches, tiredness, chills,
nausea -- the whole enchilada!
Mr. T caught it first and with his comprised
immune system due to Crohn's and biologics,
he got right to the doctor (thanks to a little nudge by moi) and on Tamiflu.
Two days later - the bug got me too!
Also went to the doc asap and on Tamiflu.
I felt a little better after a day or two,
but still exhausted.

Now, we're in the cough and really tired stage,
so Mr. T got some surgical masks for us to
wear!  It's a fun look, believe me.
Haven't worn surgical masks since we returned from
China in 2003 during the SARS epidemic!
Luckily Miss M has not caught the bug and
I sure hope she doesn't!

We're having a snow day today due
to blizzardy conditions!
I think a nap is in order very soon!
Wash your hands and try to stay healthy friends!

Mid-Week Update

Attempting to post a bit more (we'll see how that goes)
so here's a little mid-week update!

Last weekend was super busy!
Sunday morning meant Maddy and I were at high school
decorating for the Winter Formal!  It's a fundraiser the
cheerleaders put on and every cheerleader and one parent MUST participate!
The theme this year was Rock and Roll -- who said listening to the oldies
was not a good idea??  Maddy was ahead of the pack since she has
been subjected to oldies music in the car for years!  :)

High school hallways decorated for Rock and Roll!
Then we headed to Sound of Music in the afternoon
and it was fabulous!
It was so well done and having seats in the very first row
was such a treat!
I wasn't sure if my granddaughter, Jane,
might be too young (almost 8) for it, but she was mesmerized!
We all really enjoyed it!

Catherine, Jane, Maddy and me
After that, Maddy and I rushed home so she could get
ready for Winter Formal.
My attempt to curl Maddy's hair was successful and approved by M!
She and one of her friends went together.
I worked at the event checking students in and then
chaperoning!  I was happy to see that so many students
came with friends and that it wasn't a "date only" event!

Maddy and Gracie at winter formal
But wait, let me tell you -- Catholic school does not mess
around on the dress code even for dances.
Everyone is informed of it and any students from
other schools are supposed to be informed by their dates.
The counselors check dresses on the way in!  Dresses can't be too low in
front or back or too short!
If they don't meet the guidelines, they are sent to a"special" room
where their dress is modified to be appropriate.  Fabric is
added to the front or back and/or the bottom!
I saw of  number of girls having fabric added to the bottom of their dresses!

There's also a "re-teaching" room for those students who
do not follow the rules on dancing!
Couples can't be too close --
there has to be space in between them for the Holy Spirit, you know!

After the dance ended at 11 PM, cheerleaders and their parents
are required to stay and clean up!
Yes, Sunday was a long day!
But it was so much fun!
Wish I would've gotten a photo of the priests that
were there and grooving to the oldies along the side of the gym!
Yay -- another successful winter formal in the books!

Random Bits on a Friday

TGIF!!!
I don't know about you, but this has felt like a really long week!
We had winter weather advisories
for Wednesday/Thursday.
Not much snow materialized, only ice and bitter cold! :(
We were hoping praying for a snow day, but no such luck!
Just near zero temps with highs maybe to 10 degrees!
And someone is still wearing her uniform shorts to school!
Way to think positive Mads - but you're freezing those little legs off!

This weekend Maddy and I are headed to the Lied Center for the
Performing Arts with my daughter-in-law and granddaughter to see the always wonderful
Rodgers & Hammerstein's The Sound of Music!

High school cheer continues and Junior Varsity
is the busiest of all the squads because they cheer
for both Reserve and JV teams!
Some evenings - they have 4 games to cheer at!
I'm becoming quite the popular cheer mom
(maybe because I'm the only cheer mom)
 at BB games!
Sometimes I'll try to do the cheers along with the girls!
Remember, I have no sense of rhythm.  On occasion I may
have messed up their cheers as they've gotten confused
watching me attempting to do the clapping cheers!
But, it usually gets a laugh out of the girls!
I'm sure they can tell I was never a cheerleader!  :)

It was "low pony" night in case you're wondering.
Mr. Tennis was surprised they all wore their hair the same way!
Hmmm -- yes, that was intentional!

I've yet to catch the decluttering/organizing bug, but
am seriously thinking about it.
Thinking is the first step, right???
Maybe I'll start with getting the rest of the Christmas stuff
put away soon.
Need organizing help immediately! ;0

Outside decorations will probably be waiting til spring to come down!

Have a wonderful weekend!
See you back here next week!

xoxo

Hello January!

Welcome to 2018!

Don't you just love a fresh, new year?
Almost as much as fresh new snow!!
We don't have any new snow here, but with the polar plunge
temps, we're keeping the snow we have!
I love our Scottish Terrier's attitude toward the snow . . .
she tears across the yard as fast as she can and then
rolls around in the snow!  She especially enjoys rubbing beautiful large Scotty nose in it.
Pups -- so funny and sweet and yet so messy!
There are towels in various stages of wet near
every door!
Someday the floors will be clean again!

And because she is adorable and now 16, I'm adding an extra birthday photo!
Love the great big beautiful "16" balloons from Jodee!
Those really made her day along with her favorite Scooters!  :)
Thank you sweet Jodee!

Back to school already and more cheering !
Goooooo Bolts!!!
