Hello Summer!

Hello Summer!
Bye Bye endless Spring -
in true Nebraska form, it's poured rain on the first day, first weekend of summer
and entire first week of summer!
We've had enough rain already!

But, no matter - we're welcoming summer!

Splash pool teapot at Disney GF
Looking forward to more pool time!

I was super-adventurous [for me] at Disney, got in line with the 4-12 year olds
and went down a slide that went thru this amazing rock configuration!
I didn't even care [much] about my hair or wear a life jacket!
Go Me!

Looking forward to more summer favorites  --
not sure about more water slides -- but definitely
Root Beer Floats!

The Never-Ending Winter . . .

Unfortunately, this year we seem to be stuck
with a never-ending winter!

I've heard of never-ending french fries (from Red Robin)

AND

never-ending Root Beer Floats
(also Red Robin)
and I'm in favor of both of those!
YUM YUM!

BUT  . . . this never-ending winter
with over 50 inches of snow
this season is really too much!
The snow-packed and ICY streets are frightful
(and so is my driving)!

Please Mother Nature -
  have pity and send us
some warm temps to melt away the ice and snow!

Always Be Yourself . . . or Be a Unicorn!

As Maddy says --
"Always be Yourself unless you can be a
Unicorn, then
Always be a Unicorn!"
Words of wisdom from my favorite teenager!
Pretty magical, right! :)

We've been loving the rather large
floatys that are around this year
and the unicorn is definitely our favorite
. . .
so far! :)

With the extreme heat and humidity we've
been enjoying,
the pool is the place to be with a floaty
and maybe a root beer float too!

Attempting to Beat the Heat!!

News alert . . .

Big heat wave in the Heartland!
This week the temps have been in the high 90's -- as in a temp of 99 degrees
with high humidity making the heat index temp at 105 on Monday!

She kind of likes jumping into the pool!
Yes, Monday -- the day that Miss Maddy has her
zoo crew job from 8 am to 5 pm.
The heat wave is continuing through the entire week.

So, we're doing all we can to beat the heat,
including cranking the AC and
spending nearly evening at the pool!
Best place to go after a long and hot day at the zoo?
Definitely the pool --
especially on Mondays - walking taco night!

We also may have indulged in refreshing drinks occasionally
 over the last few weeks!

Care to join me in a Root Beer Float anyone?
Yes please!

A Lost Art . . .

The weekend was HOT again - as in H. O. T.
(high 90s, high humidity, very frizzy hair)
so, it seemed like a really good time to introduce Maddy
to the lost art of
washing the car . . .
at home
in the driveway!

Usually, we drive through a car wash  --
so speedy and convenient.

We gathered our bucket, that crazy weird green hose,
some washcloths, towels and
Windex and got to work!

Maddy learned quickly and was a pro!
She even cleaned the tires!
We threw out trash and
used Windex on the inside of the windows
as well as the outside!

My big red jeep is beaming -
it's so happy to be so clean!

After such great work, we knew a celebration was in order --
Root Beer Floats for
everybody from Sonic!
Yum!!!

Finally . . . The Elusive RB Float!

Remember at the beginning of summer
when I said one of the things on our
summer bucket list
was to ride our bicycles and get a root beer float??

 No, you don't remember???
Well, I do and it's been nagging at me for months -- yes, months!

Finally, last weekend, it was really warm -- as in up in the 80s again
and sticky and just plain hot.
We had gotten a bit used to the cooler temps of fall and
didn't really want to go back to hot weather.

But, we decided to make the best of it and do some summery stuff.
First, we hit the zoo,
as I thought the zoo was still open.
They had announced in our official local newspaper they would be open
one more weekend -- but their definition of
weekend evidently means Saturday only and, so,
we were a day late and a dollar short.

I'm certain I've asked her other times, but I asked again
and this time she said,
"yes, she'd love a root beer float!"

And so, finally -- check that baby off the summer bucket list
(though we didn't ride our bikes -- the nearby DQ had closed for the season too).

But we did hit a Sonic drive-thru!

And let me tell you . . .

She thoroughly enjoyed

her very first root beer float!
