Just Keep Swimming!

We wish we could just keep swimming!
With the continued high temps and high humidity,
the heat index has been 100+ this week!

Oy!

So, in an effort to stay cool by thinking cool,
here are a couple photos of my favorite

Happy Labor Day y'all!

Fun in the Sun At the Pool!

She's not too happy that school is out, summer is here
and the pool is open, is she??

We were among the many who hit the pool
 on its first weekend open!!
The extremely hot and humid conditions
were perfect for some pool time!

Even though it was very hot, Maddy reported (and my toes confirmed)
that the water was very cold!!

Besides fun in the sun and at the pool, guess who loves the little snack shop??
Miss M!

Her treat of choice on the first day  . . . chilled puppy chow!!
Oh yum!!
We love summer!

Pool Time --- Marco . . . Polo!!

Last week as July slinked away and August sneaked up on us, Maddy and I realized that she only had about three weeks until school started!!

Just how did summer zoom by so fast???

We decided then and there that we had not been to the pool nearly enough and vowed to visit at least three times a week, weather permitting!

The weather surely did permit as one afternoon last week, it was 99 degrees with a
103+ heat index!

That's a day just begging for some pool time, isn't it!

So, I left work early, surprised Maddy and off we went to the swimming pool.

Unbelievably, it was not crowded! I'm guessing that the kids that go right at
1 PM had already left and the after-work crowd was not there yet.

No matter, it was perfect -- no crowds, cool water and a silly girl!

What a combination for summer fun!

Maddy usually never wears her hair in piggies.

She rarely wants it pulled back or up, but on this particular day, she agreed to piggies so that it wouldn't all be stuck in her face when swimming! I think it is most adorable!

Generally, I like her hair a bit shorter, like just at chin length as she has a little face, and I love it when her hair gently frames that sweetness!

And then, before we headed out to pick up Muffy at puppy daycare
(where she also enjoyed some pool time),
Maddy was able to chow down on her all-time fave meal -- chicken strips and fries.

I'd call that one perfect summer afternoon! Yum yum!

The Deep End Doesn't Scare Me!

Well, actually the deep end of the pool does kind of scare me, but . . . it doesn't scare Maddy anymore! She's just completed swimming lessons and has worked so hard! Seeing as the summer zipped by without me getting her into swim lessons at the Y, I opted for some private one-on-one lessons for Maddy. Best investment ever! The instructor, Kayla, worked her so hard for 30 minutes and taught her to tread water, the crawl stroke, butterfly, back float and back stroke and worked a bit on diving too in only 5 lessons! Since summer and pool time is nearly over, Maddy will continue lessons either at the Y or next summer as Kayla will be returning to our pool.

I admit it, I'm not a great swimmer. I had a big fear of deep water and by deep water, I mean any place where I can't keep my feet firmly on the bottom and my head out of water. Now, that wouldn't be a huge thing if I was really tall, but I'm not, so it is a little limiting. Oh, I can swim alright, but I've never really felt comfortable in deep water.

At the end of the second lesson, her instructor (a lifeguard, thank God) asked her if she wanted to jump off the diving board? I thought she'd say no way [I would have]. But, she said Yes! She walked right to the end of that board and jumped right in -- like she'd been doing it every day of her life! Wow! I am awestruck!

Checking swimming lessons off the the list of things to get done this summer!

Yay Maddy girl! :)

SLIDING into Summer!

What a perfect long weekend we had! The weather was so beautiful! Last year on Memorial Day weekend, we were bailing water out of our basement, so I was a wee bit worried there might be a repeat -- but no, that did not happen! Yay!!!!

It was so incredibly lovely out! Maddy figured it was warm enough to go swimming. The sun was shining brightly and it was warming up nicely, so we headed to the pool. She did her latest "I'm cool" dance. Kind of reminds me a bit of Elaine (from Seinfeld) but she is, of course way cuter! The pool looked wonderful, but the water was icy cold! Brrrrr! I just put my tootsies in and was freezing. Maddy jumped in a number of times and swam around a bit, but it was even too cold for her for very long. So, that was Saturday. Today (Monday), she was sure it warmed up a lot and we headed back there today. Still pretty chilly. Hoping for warm days to come and heat up that water a bit more.

Can tell it's nearly summer -- made my first potato salad of the season today and it was yummy too. Funny -- my Mom and I were both making potato salad, in different cities, at the same time! Great minds, you know! :)

Ended our day with a nice walk to school and some time on the playground equipment. Amazing -- no one else was there -- sweet!!
