The Deep End Doesn't Scare Me!

Well, actually the deep end of the pool does kind of scare me, but . . . it doesn't scare Maddy anymore! She's just completed swimming lessons and has worked so hard! Seeing as the summer zipped by without me getting her into swim lessons at the Y, I opted for some private one-on-one lessons for Maddy. Best investment ever! The instructor, Kayla, worked her so hard for 30 minutes and taught her to tread water, the crawl stroke, butterfly, back float and back stroke and worked a bit on diving too in only 5 lessons! Since summer and pool time is nearly over, Maddy will continue lessons either at the Y or next summer as Kayla will be returning to our pool.

I admit it, I'm not a great swimmer. I had a big fear of deep water and by deep water, I mean any place where I can't keep my feet firmly on the bottom and my head out of water. Now, that wouldn't be a huge thing if I was really tall, but I'm not, so it is a little limiting. Oh, I can swim alright, but I've never really felt comfortable in deep water.

At the end of the second lesson, her instructor (a lifeguard, thank God) asked her if she wanted to jump off the diving board? I thought she'd say no way [I would have]. But, she said Yes! She walked right to the end of that board and jumped right in -- like she'd been doing it every day of her life! Wow! I am awestruck!

Checking swimming lessons off the the list of things to get done this summer!

Yay Maddy girl! :)

Way to go, Maddy! It's amazing how quick they learn how to swim! We put Carson in private lessons and it was worth every penny! Enjoy your last few weeks of swimming!

That's awesome! I might have to try the private lesson idea. Hannah decided she'd rather sit on the side of the pool and tell the others in the class how to swim, like she was the instructor. So much for our first swim lesson experience.

Good job Maddy!

Look at your girl working so hard...miss Grace is a swimmer too, in fact our whole family is. I swam in high school. It's an important skill to learn.

Great pics!

Wow....Way to go Maddy!!!!!
I know you have to be so proud of her. I rememeber the first time I jumped off a diving board...I was scared to death, and it took lot's of people yelling "Jump".."Jump." My girls haven't done the diving board yet, but I hope they'll be like Maddy, and dive right in.
She is such a cutie.

Way to go, Maddy! From a former member of a varsity high school swim team, who just recently conned her daughter into putting her face in the water.

Wow! What a jumper!! Brave...

I need to do the private lessons for Liam this winter. He's never been really good with water, but I think he is ready to improve his game. :)

I too have a fear of deep water. I always say that I am going to take lessons. I need to!

my mom always told me that swimming is a life skill. I don't like to swim at all (almost drowned at 7) but I never told my kids my fears and they LOVE the water. They are amazing. Go Maddy!!

Lia did swimming lessons but she is still afraid of the deep end and there is NO WAY she would go off the diving board! That is great!
