Winter Formal - A Fun Cheer Fundraiser!

Winter Formal 2017 - Hollywood Glam!
Every winter the cheerleaders organize,
decorate and put on a fundraiser, known as the Winter Formal!
Every cheerleader and cheer parent is required to "volunteer" and
attend the fundraiser!

When you attend Catholic school, you get your picture taken with the Pope!
It took place last Saturday and was loads of fun!
The freshie cheerleaders had two morning basketball games
to cheer at and then help with decorating in the afternoon with the dance
starting at 8:30 that evening.
Did high school dances start that late in your day??
They sure didn't in mine, but that starting time gave the students
time to go out to eat before the dance.
Lots of kids go to fast food joints --  not some fancy sit-down
restaurant.  Too funny!

Freshman cheer squad -- love these sweet girls! Aren't they adorable!
Most students go stag or with friends and even those
with dates appeared to ditch their dates after
coming in to hang out with their friends!
I was a ticket taker and then a chaperone! :)
In case you're wondering,
no, I did not have to send any students to the "re-teaching" room
for inappropriate dancing!
Probably helped that the school principal
walked through the dancers during every slowish song! :)
The cheerleaders did a great job on decorating and running
the fundraiser and now we freshie parents know what to expect and plan for
next year!

Yippee Skippee TGIT/TGIF! What Happened to My Eyebrows???

TGIT/TGIF!
Has this felt like a really LONG week
in a really LONG month to you too?

Icy!!
At the beginning of the week, we had that crazy ice storm to contend with
and if you know me at all, you
know I was awake worrying
about driving at least 2 or 3 nights
in the past week!
Yes, I am that neurotic person who
drives about 10 mph when it's icy out!
Thank heavens the ice has melted . . . for now!

The ice on the trees was sooo pretty as it melted!
With high school back in session for a couple weeks now,
Miss M is deep into homework
and cheerleading as the
cheerleaders are getting ready
for a state competition in February.
So, if the poor girl isn't doing homework, she's
either getting up early (6 am practices 2x a week)
or staying up late (sometime 8-9:30 pm practices).
The struggle is real people!

Even Muffy has better eyebrows than me!
In other fun(ny) news, I had my eyebrows dyed the other day.
Have you ever done that?
I have done it before and now I remember why I didn't do it more often!
Yes, my eyebrows took on a life of their own!
Looked a bit like someone drew them on with thick brown crayons!!!!!!!
AAACK!!
Maddy could hardly keep from laughing as we left the salon!
Mr. Tennis looked at me all night long like I was possessed!
Later, Maddy said they looked fine -- just reminded her of a walrus!
WTH!?!!!!
Now, after a couple days, I believe there has been much
improvement and they don't look so brown Crayola-ish or thick!

Hmmm- what maintenance procedure should I try next?
Would love some eyelash extensions (have also tried those), but
they are pricey and take a LOT of maintenance to keep up!
Guess I had a case of the saggy baggy blues and needed a change.
Maybe next time I'll
book a flight somewhere warm!
Learn from me and just buy a good eyebrow pencil!
Happy weekend!

Ice, Rain and More Ice!

Oh my word!
Our area joined the other parts of the country
hammered by icy rain and ice!
I was hoping the weather service would be
wrong again, but no  . . . this time
they were correct!
Sleet, rain, icy rain and more ice!

It's such a mess!  I think I would
rather have a foot of snow
than all this ice!

Maddy is hoping for a day off tomorrow (Tuesday),
we will see -- keep your fingers crossed!

In the meantime, stay safe
and let's all dream about warmer days!

A Favorite Gift

Maddy and I were so excited that we found
 the perfect gift for
Mr. Tennis at Christmas!
It's always tricky to find something that  he
really needs or wants!
Amazon Prime to the rescue!

It's a hat with a light on the front!
Those last-call walks
with our Scottie are late night and pretty dark, but no more!
They are both delighted with this very cool
light-up hat!
It would also be great for those early morning jogs!
And bonus -- Mr. Tennis and his light-up hat
are the talk of the neighborhood and envied by all! :)
Of course, I would have told you all about it earlier, but we didn't
want to spoil his Christmas surprise!

Hmmm,  looks like I might need to get him a fluorescent shirt
or jacket -- he's looking a
bit ninja here all in black!

Ooops - I did it again!

Oh dear -- I did it again!
I slipped and fell going up the stairs, grabbed the
handrail and bumped back down a few stairs
twisting and crunching my foot/toes, not to mention
hitting my knee and elbow! :(
It felt like my toes snapped backwards!
Sadly, I did it again and broke that same toe
that I broke a few years ago!
OUCHIE!!
Deja Vu

So, I am back in the boot!
I tried taping my poor purple swollen toe
to the toe next to it and that seemed to
help a little.  But by the end of the day, my broken toe
was more swollen and sore than before.
So, I've gone back to the big boot -- takes pressure
off my foot and toe and allows it (cross your fingers)
to heal faster.
It's not a great fashion look, but I've never
been much of a fashion maven anyway.
But, the good news is that it makes me taller!
Always, trying to look on the bright side! :)

A Fun Design Project

One of Maddy's pre-holiday projects
involved designing a holiday tee-shirt
for the freshman cheer squad.
She just got in her head one day that maybe the other girls would
also like to have a new cheer t-shirt.

She designed this super-cute long-sleeve t-shirt!
There wasn't much time, but we were able
to get together with the screen printing company
that does the school's t-shirts and they came
through for us with the shirts completed just before Christmas break.

Freshman cheerleader names on back.
Lesson learned - we now know that you need at least two weeks after
submitted your design and order to receive the shirts!
It was such a fun project for her and
all of the freshie cheerleaders loved the shirts!
She's hoping that she'll get to work on the
State Cheer tournament shirts too!

Happy New Year - the Year of Kindness

Hello Friends--
Today is a new year and a new start.
Some years, I've tried to have a "word" or  some type of so-called "theme" for the year.
Remember the Year of Spanx!
Ha -- that was a good one!
This year, I'm marking 2017 as the Year of Kindness!

I think after 2016's hostile and volatile election season (on both sides),
it's really time for a little lot of kindness, isn't it!
At least for me, it got to be too much to hear the constant bickering
on the news and read the word battles and attacks on FB.
Won't you join me in being kind to others in your family, school,
neighborhood, city, Facebook, etc.
Even when we're feeling a little down or bummed or totally disappointed,
we're going to attempt a
a positive attitude.  I think hope we can achieve that by
saying Thank You more,
being grateful and appreciative, praying more,
being sensitive to others needs and issues and
also being kind to ourselves
It can be a rough world out there,
let's try a little kindness, shall we.
If you know me at all, you know
that odd-numbered years always make me a
little anxious!  Even so, let's make 2017 a good one!
Happy 2017!
