A Golden Birthday!

A birthday is the first day of another 365-day
journey around the sun.
Enjoy the trip!

Hey -- it's Philip's Golden Birthday!!
He's 28 on the 28th!!

We had a celebration of his and his daughter, Janie's, 3rd birthday
last weekend.
It was so much fun!
Pizza and carrot cake -- my favorite foods
(wow - you'd think it was my birthday, wouldn't you!)

Maddy had a blast playing with Janie and little Walt
(or as Mr. Tennis likes to call him -- Philip Jr.).
It's true, Walt does look a lot like Philip did when he was little.

It was a great way to spend the afternoon!
Thanks for having us over to celebrate.
Happy Birthday to two of my very favorite people!

Snow Day(s)!!

My, oh my, guess what we've been having?

The storm had just started!
Snow!

And two snow days off from school!!

Jim Cantore from the Weather Channel was in town
reporting from Q Street
since they called this storm "Q"
for quantity!

But, guess what, we didn't get a whole lot of snow, so
the Q didn't quite measure up!

Nonetheless, a snow day is a great day!!

My office closed early -- unheard of -- but so nice!

Maddy and I took Muffy for a walk in the snow.
She loved it!

Muffy sees a Squirrel!?!

Also did a little sledding --
very little - as there are no real hills nearby.

More snow is in the forecast, but I am actually praying for a warm up!
Shhhh -- don't tell -- some people LOVE snow! :)

Happy Weekend!

I Believe In . . .

I believe in pink.
I believe that happy girls are the prettiest girls.
I believe that tomorrow is another day, . . . and I believe in miracles.
Audrey Hepburn

Last weekend Maddy and I had the opportunity to
attend our local community playhouse performance of
Pinkalicious!!

We attended with our friends, Jodee and Kamree.
Kamree definitely got the memo to wear pink!

It was a fabulous little play and the main actors were in the 8-12 age group!
What a hoot!
Somehow, Maddy and I missed that book and had not read it!

One of the butterflies in the play

After the performance, standing ovation, of course,
the actors met their fans in an adjoining room for autographs and
conversation.  It was so sweet and the actors were so talkative and friendly!

Maddy and Miss Pinkalicious!

We will definitely be checking the playhouse schedule for
more performances and some of their classes too.

Happy Birthday to Janie B!

A very happy birthday to the
sweetest 3-year old around!

Janie at 3 months -- love this photo!
Little Miss Janie, my very first granddaughter, turned 3 today!

At the top of her birthday wish list . . . a hairdryer!  :)

Happy to report that her wish was granted!

Janie is an amazing little girl and I'm not the least bit biased!

She's sweet and thoughtful and helpful with her younger brother.
Janie is very bright, has the cutest little face and says the most darling things.
Did I tell you that she is very bright and most adorable??
Yes, it's true!

Looking sweet in her pearls at 3 years old!

We're spreading the celebrating out a bit ,and
I will have much more to report and many more photos later this month,
but I just couldn't let the day go by without saying,

Happy Birthday Janie --
we love you to the moon and back!!

A Sweet Moment

I was always looking outside myself for strength and confidence
but it comes from within. It is there all the time.
Anna Freud

Last week was Catholic Schools Week --
 a week long celebration
at Maddy's school marked by special events throughout the week.

One of the final events of the week was the all-school Talent Show!
Preparation for the show started back in December.
I was a bit surprised when Miss Maddy said she was going to be in the show.

The girls chose wintry outfits for their performance --
uniforms were not required for the Talent Show!

She and a friend had a plan.
Alex would play the piano and Maddy would read a poem to accompany the piano piece.
Weekly practices and dress rehearsal took place throughout January.

The night before the show, the poem was missing!
She almost knew it by heart, but not quite.
Without skipping a beat or freaking out,
she calmly wrote another poem, typed it up and
voila -- was ready!!

Her poem was entitled "Winter" --
so appropriate as we had just had a huge snowstorm.

She and Alex took the stage when it was their turn and did a fabulous job.

Every single one of Maddy's teachers from
kindergarten through 4th grade stopped afterwards to tell her
what a great job she did and how proud they were of her!
 Me too!

My Miss Maddy -- confident and assured --
it was a very sweet moment!

Hello February!!

Whew -- so happy to get that nasty long and cold month of January behind us!

But, before it could depart,
we got dumped on with a big snowstorm!

Good news -- snow day from school!

Bad news -- arctic cold -- not a good sledding day!

Miss Muffy needed me to shovel
her
a path through the yard
down to the fence where the snow wasn't so deep!

She loves having a little running path now
to scare off squirrels who continue to torment her!

The really good news is a warm-up is scheduled for next week --
 bye bye snow! :)

Happy Weekend!
