Holiday Photo Cards - Revisited

It's that time of year again, isn't it? Time to figure out what to do for the holiday photo card. I like to do one every year so I can look at them later and see how the kids have grown and changed. And I love to receive them from friends and family! Anybody out there need my
real-life address?

Photo card from Christmas 2005
(Vacay in Mexico earlier that year -- that was fuN!)

This year is a little troubling for me. Philip and Catherine are married and probably doing their own card. Connor graduated from college and is living out of state working (sniff, sniff, sniff), so it's just Mr. Tennis, the Madster and me! What to do?

Christmas card 2004

Last year, only Maddy was on the card. This year, I'm considering a 3-photo card -- one photo of Maddy, one of me and Maddy and one of Maddy and Mr. Tennis. Are you sensing a theme here? Yep, Miss M rules!!! Guess what -- we don't have any photos of the three of us together! Ooops -- that happens sometimes!

Maddy's First Christmas Home, 2003

(Don't you just want to squeeze and smooch on those cheeks of hers!)

And here's another question for you -- when do you take your adult children off the signature line on the Christmas card?? It's not like they're not part of the family, but once they don't live at home, is that the time to boot them out of the signature?? What do you think?

oh dear, big decision on the grown up kids thing....
i don't know exactly what to tell you.
i'm guessing you might not add the son that doesn't live withya'll & isn't in the picture, but that seems so sad.....

that cutiepie maddie of yours surely gives you endless choices!

I LOVE family cards!! I always do the 4 of us, even though my husband doesn't want to be in it. I think the 3 pics are good, unless you have one really awesome stand out!

That was a fun post! I love looking back at Christmas cards too. They are so cute! Miss "M" is such a doll!

My parents still send out a Christmas letter to their friends updating them on all of their kids, so I guess I don't have a good answer for you. I don't think they sign them with our names though...?

Anyway, I'd love your address so I could add you to my Christmas card list. Thanks!

I too have been wondering about our Christmas photo. It's so hard these days to get everyone together. We just had Hannah's pic. taken last week so hopefully we'll be able to use one of them. Not sure how the boys will feel about not being on the card. I have thought about individual photo boxes on one card. So many decisions.

As for signing your cards, I probably wouldn't put Philip's name on since he's now married. As for your other son that's a tough one.

Thanks for taking us down memory lane. I love holiday photo cards!

The photo is the hardest part of the whole card. With four kids and two adults if we get one picture where everyone is looking at the camera it is a miracle.

I have no advice on what to do about grown up kids - I can't even imagine that point!

Your cards from years past are so cute - I'm sure whatever you do this year will be also!

I'm going to TRY to get a picture of the 3 kids next week while we're in Virginia. Otherwise, I might not even send out cards!!!! How lame is that?

Cute walk down memory lane...

I say keep the older kids' names on. People understand why they are not pictured on the card anymore, but they are still part of the family. That's my two cents. :)

I love the flashback Christmas card pictures! Maddy was such an adorable little toddler! She did have such smoochable cheeks!

I think your idea for this year's Christmas card is perfect! I can't wait to see what you come up with!

Happy Hump Day!

Tough choices. I think your card idea for this year sounds great. I loved seeing your cards from years past too. I am thinking my mom took our names off the card once we got married. It makes sense to me.

I think if you do a multi-photo card, you should include all the kids...grown up and all!

Great photos...I love the ones from years past! Always so fun to reflect. You have a BEAUTIFUL family!! :)

OXO,
Tanya

How fun to see all of these Christmas cards. Neat!

I think the plan you mentioned for this year's card sounds good. Any photo card is usually great. I know I love receiving them.

I take my kids' names off the signature line once they've married, or permanently move out. That's how my mom did it too.

I've noticed I feel the slightest twinge of pain now when writing ours, since another one got married this past summer. There are just 4 of us here now. LOL

Wow... you ask some hard questions! I bet you could just sign your family name rather than all your individual names?

I am sad to not do cards this year, but we might be getting that puppy afterall so I need to save my pennies!

I hear you... Two of my kids are married and have families of their own.(Both live 300 miles away) One is single but lives in Wyoming (I'm by Seattle) My daughter and granddaughter live with me and my youngest son lives here too (he's almost 18) It's hard to get everyone together...So I have decided to put separate photos on one card this year.
Just getting everyone to get a photo to me is the trick! :)

I don't put my grown up kids signatures on my cards if they aren't living with me, just their picture and a update on what they are doing in the card.
Aren't transitions so much fun?

Thanks for visiting my blog today and leaving a comment!

I think that once we each got married, my parents removed us from the signature. I'll do the same.

Pictures? Your idea is great! For the past few years, I've done a picture with all four kids. I haven't done a family picture in a while. I need to.

Kudos to you for thinking about Christmas cards already! I haven't gotten that far in my thought process. :)

Decisions decisions........they can be SOO hard SOMETIMES! I was hoping to get the girls on a card this year, but finances will not allow. UGH! Good luck!

I enjoyed your flashback Christmas cards.

We are doing our Christmas card tomorrow. Big brother is visiting this weekend, so thought we would get him in our picture. SO many faces and personalities in one picture! But if I can just get everyone to look at the camera and smile I will be happy!

Yes...I do want to kiss and squeeze those precious little cheeks!

I know for my big kids they have no desire to be on a Christmas cards so that leaves the two little ones.....I can't wait to see what you decide!

I like the idea of the 3 pictures. A friend of mine has adult children who are married with kids now and every year i get their card and it is done with each family submits their own family picture in black and white and they make the card collage style. Just to give you an idea for another year. As far as the signature goes once they leave home I would switch to The ____ Family that way you aren't excluding anyone or needing to write out your childrens name with their new spouces.
those are just my thoughts :)
happy weekend,
xo,
LuLu

that's exactly what I'm doing with my card. it has 3 photos. My mom still sends out a photo of all of us... every kids, spouse, grandkid. They're very special.

Such cute cards of Christmas past!!

You raise some interesting points... my parents still put Logan and I on their Christmas card lines.. and we've been married for 15 years. haha!!

Can't wait to see this year's card!

We put our grown son on the signature line of our cards and will probably do it until he starts sending his own cards. In other words, we'll probably do it forever.
