A Sweet Moment

I was always looking outside myself for strength and confidence
but it comes from within. It is there all the time.
Anna Freud

Last week was Catholic Schools Week --
 a week long celebration
at Maddy's school marked by special events throughout the week.

One of the final events of the week was the all-school Talent Show!
Preparation for the show started back in December.
I was a bit surprised when Miss Maddy said she was going to be in the show.

The girls chose wintry outfits for their performance --
uniforms were not required for the Talent Show!

She and a friend had a plan.
Alex would play the piano and Maddy would read a poem to accompany the piano piece.
Weekly practices and dress rehearsal took place throughout January.

The night before the show, the poem was missing!
She almost knew it by heart, but not quite.
Without skipping a beat or freaking out,
she calmly wrote another poem, typed it up and
voila -- was ready!!

Her poem was entitled "Winter" --
so appropriate as we had just had a huge snowstorm.

She and Alex took the stage when it was their turn and did a fabulous job.

Every single one of Maddy's teachers from
kindergarten through 4th grade stopped afterwards to tell her
what a great job she did and how proud they were of her!
 Me too!

My Miss Maddy -- confident and assured --
it was a very sweet moment!

What an amazing little girl. I love her confidence and the fact that she didn't miss a beat when her poem was missing. Our children are our greatest teachers!!

Awww that is amazing! I can't believe that she rewrote the poem at the last minute, I don't think I could have done that. Way to go Maddy!

Yay! We are so proud of you, Maddy! We are especially proud that she remained so calm under pressure and wrote another poem for the show when the first one went missing. It takes a lot of courage and determination to perform in front of your peers AND come up with a second poem like that! You're an amazing girl, Maddy, and we love watching you grow into a little lady! You're a great mom, Janet. Thanks for sharing this precious story. :)
