Happy Fall and Happy Foxes!

Happy Fall Y'all!! But seriously, how can it be time for fall to be here??? We do love fall around here - but dread what follows -- W I N T E R! But for now, we will put that season out of our minds! A few trees are just beginning to turn color here. The bigger sign of fall is all the acorns falling and the squirrels everywhere! Frannie wants to catch a squirrel, but she is not quick enough. Our sweet Scottie, Muffy, did catch one, but it screamed so loud, she let it go. Totally fine with me as I wouldn't have wanted to have to dispose of it! Ewww!
Anyway, I wanted to show you the foxes that reside in our neighborhood! I see them on walks all the time. We don't live out in the country. We are in the middle of the city. Earlier this year, Maddie and I saw the baby foxes (called kits I think) running and jumping and playing tag. Foxes don't seem to be scared of humans - they don't want you to get too close, but will engage in a staredown and then saunter away. Why is it that foxes are so adorable when so many other critters are scary and disgusting - opossums I'm talking about you! One of the neighborhood foxes did catch a little dinner last year just down the street from us!
Husker football has started around here and tomorrow is the second home game. Hoping for another win for the new coach. Go Big Red! I don't really follow football very much, but so many in Nebraska are obsessed with it. For me - home football games provide the best time to go shopping - not much traffic! :)
Did I tell you my Jenny Craig job ended?? Sad day as I loved the clients and the food, but the corporate company filed bankruptcy earlier this year. The franchise I worked at continued through August, but then Nutrisystem (who bought JC in bankruptcy) took away the ability of the franchise to continue to sell food and clients dropped off. Anyway, I've had a ton of interviews looking for a new part-time job. I am one of those optimistic people and believed I would be offered jobs after each interview I had! Silly me - no such luck. Except that I am a substitute para at a local Catholic elementary school taking over for paras who take a day off or are sick. So far, I've worked 2 mornings. I miss working. Not that I want to go back to full-time, but I like part-time and getting out of the house and chatting with coworkers!
Until next time, Happy Fall!!

Dear Fall 2020 - Things I like About You!

Dear Fall 2020 -

I thought by now "things" would be different -- better -  but we're not there yet, are we?

However, there are still a number of things to like/love about fall including:

Orange Pumpkins!

While I kind of love the gnarly ones, I  really like the orange ones too!

So perfect, so orange, so fallish!

Squirrels!

Truthfully -- I have a hate/hate relationship with squirrels.

The squirrels in our hood are doing some damage!

Our yard probably has 50,000 acorns lying about, even though I sweep the

sidewalk and street every other day.  Yes, I am that weird lady who sweeps the street.

A couple years ago, when it was icy, I chopped the ice and attempted to sweep the ice away.

My neighbors thought I was cray-crazy! ;)

Back to squirrels - the squirrels are throwing acorns at our vehicles - with a lot of force!

Frannie thinks that maybe someday she'll be able to catch a squirrel - doubtful.

Until then, she drags acorns to the backyard and munches on them as appetizers!

I'm constantly saying - "drop it Frannie -- acorns are not kibble!"

Cooler Temps!

Who doesn't love the lower humidity and cooler morning temps!

It's making  me feel so happy and relieved that I don't have to fight my hair and frizz

quite so much every day.

Sweaters and Throws.

Going along with those cooler temps means having some throws on the sofa --

we love cuddling up and watching some lame tv!

What about you?

What do you like best about fall?

Calling All Squirrels!

I didn't really mean to call every squirrel in the neighborhood to a feast at my house, but that's just what happened yesterday. Maddy and I collected some adorable little gourds and pumpkins at a recent trip to the pumpkin patch. Since our flower pots were empty, we decided to fill them up with the pumpkins and gourds. Don't they look so cute?

Yes?! Well, that lasted less than a day! The squirrels are evidently starving!

So, I refilled and put the larger pumpkin in there. Looked so cute and fallish! You could see the touch of fall colors even from the street! While I was patting myself on the back for such great work, more squirrels evidently invited themselves over and absolutely demolished my hard work! I would show you a photo of the desecration, but it was too horrible and gross to even photograph! Time to buy the fake stuff and put that out, though in the past, squirrels have eaten that too. Have no idea why they are so hungry, there are only about 5,000,000 acorns in the yard that they are welcome to chomp on and haul away!

[What a great little raker -- I hated to tell her that it would be the first of many times we will be raking!]

Maddy has wondered why we don't put pumpkins out early -- now she knows!! We are enjoying the trees turning color. We love this tree and visit it daily so Maddy can pick up leaves it has dropped. Soon, they will all be on the ground!

We love fall -- it's what comes after that we don't like so much!
