Husker Gymnastics!

One of the many benefits of living
in a University town is fairly easy access
to college athletic events --
unless you're talking about Husker football.
That's a little different - as in - hard to get tickets to attend!

Husker Gymnastic - 2009 - Bandana Day! Maddy and our neighbor Sarah.

But, Husker Gymnastics events are great fun and one
of the more economical (cheap) events to attend!
We've been going for years!

Mr. Tennis and Maddy went to this year's first Women's Gymnastics meet a couple weeks ago,
and we all went last week!
Wow -- the 17th ranked Huskers were up against
#3 ranked Michigan.
Guess who won??
Huskers!!
Cool red and white pendant lights!

After the awards, we were going to wait for autographs from the team,
but the line was longer than for a Disney princess,
so we opted out.

It was great fun and we loved seeing those fabulous
women athletes!
Gooooooo Huskers!

Flips and Jumps and Handsprings!

The last camp/clinic Miss Maddy attended in July
after the theatre camps was a
gymnastics/tumbling week-long clinic.

She really, really wants to do a back handspring
following a round-off!

Maddy asked me about my gymnastic abilities??
I think I peaked at somersault a long time ago and never even
came close to mastering a backwards somersault!

She loved the camp and improved so much!
Sooooo,
she's giving up dance and switching to
gymnastics/tumbling!
A private lesson once a week is really moving
her closer and closer to her goal!

Meanwhile, she's making me work with her on ab exercises
daily to help strengthen our core.
My core says whattttt?
She does the exercises diligently while
I struggle and
she laughs!
Tweens can be so cruel! :)

Weekend Update!

I seem to be falling a bit
behind in my blog updates lately.
January is not my favorite month and
it just puts me into a bit of funk --
Every. Single. Year.
:(
The month is too long, too cold, too everything.
But
we must forge ahead, right!

So, we tried something different on Saturday night.

We went to a Husker Women's Gymnastics Meet.

Actually, it was a combo -- Wrestling and Gymnastics together!

They called it "A Rumble and A Tumble"!
It was loads of fun -
those girls are seriously talented
and so are the wrestlers!
Both teams won their meets!
And even though it was two very popular sports,
it was not too crowded.
We saw the ever famous (and a little weird)
Lil Red!

Flips and jumps and balancing!!

Living in a Midwestern University city has its benefits -- great museums, great arts and musical performances -- and what is most important to many in this state - great sports! Although we don't often get to see all of the University sports teams (many are sold out way ahead of time!), today we went to see the final Women's Gymnastics meet against Iowa State. Bonus -- we all received bandannas too!

Senior Tricia Woo -- she was AMAZING!!

Gotta have some snacks!!

I've never seen a gymnastics meet at this level . . . except for on tv! And bonus -- it was "Pepsi* Pack the House" so admission and all Pepsi* products were only $1!! I love me a bargain! Maddy and I had so much fun. We took our neighbor, Sarah, who is a 2nd grader, and those two girls were a riot. Afterwards, they were trying out some balance beam moves along the carpet lines -- I think they need a LOT more practice. And yay -- Nebraska won the meet! Go Huskers! The NCAA championships will be in our fair town in April, so hope we will be attend and cheer on the Big Red!
